Project Planning leads to Project Construction

Major projects usually begin with an existing or expected issue.  The first step in project development is to perform a study on how we'd like to do something if funding were to come available or if a need were to develop.  The Winter Avenue project, bridge photo above, began just this way.  Our current major project, the Fairchild Subway Replacement also started out as a study.

This map shows the streets needing major maintenance as of 2011.  Sealcoating and microsurfacing are not included as they are considered pavement preservation, not rehabilitation.  They are shown in the annual program maps.

Lynch Road Access - Economic Development

This study was performed to determine the best way to access the east side of LynchSpur between Interstate 74 and Main Street (US 136).  It determined that at full development, a new access point onto Lynch mid way between Lynch Drive and US 136 with a dedicated right and left turn lane on Lynch Spur would result.

Voorhees at Norfolk Southern Grade Separation

This analysis of the northeast area of Danville determined that constructing a new grade separation structure to take Voorhees over the Norfolk Southern would be the most economcial way to get traffic from north of Winter to the Lynch area.  The budgeting estimate to construct a new bridge is around $13 million.
