Capital PlanThe list of sewer improvements identified as immediate and short term needs are listed in this map and document. Current funding levels do not allow for complettion of all of the projects.
Upcoming ImprovementsThe Engineering division is currently recommending that Big O Construction be awarded the Westwood Sanitary Sewer Improvement. This project will replace an existing undersized sewer serving the Westwood homes and by reversing the flow of the sewer, will eliminate about 1500 feet of very difficult to maintain sewer from the system. The sewer to be abandoned runs in a heavily wooded ravine that our sewer equipment cannot reach. Because the flow will be reversed, the English street sewer between Logan and Grant will also be replaced. In addition, undersized sewer along Logan between Maywood and Westwood will be replaced. Construction should begin early Spring of this year.
Sanitary SewersThe City maintains and replaces the public sewer pipe, manholes, and pump-stations. Property owners fund these efforts by paying their monthly sewer fee which goes into the Sanitary Sewer Enterprise Fund. The enterprise fund insures that your contributions go to the sewers and not other City general expenses.
Sewer Backup: most sewer backups are blockage in the property sewer. The property sewer extends from the house to the main public line, this portion is maintained by the property owner. There are local companies in the yellow pages that clean sewers. If you think it might be a problem with the public line, follow the instructions here |
Homeowner ProgramsDanville has created an overhead sewer program to help qualifying homeonwers prevent lower level (basement) sewer backups. This program is a financial partnership between the homeowner, the City of Danville, and the Danville Sanitary District. The program will be administered on a first come basis although higher risk homes will be given consideration.
Storm SewersThe City maintains inlets, piping, and ditches within the public right-of-way to convey water runoff their appropriate discharge points. During heavy or long rain events, portions of the system may overload causing standing water on property or the roadway.
Blockages: Debris can clog storm sewer grates and even the piping. The City regularly maintains these items, but there are times when blockages still occur. If you see that a grate is covered, please remove the material if it is safe to do so. Otherwise, please report the issue to us so we can address it. | ||||||||||||||||||||
