The major maintenance of your local streets are possible because of the Infrastructure Improvement Fund, your local gas tax.  The local gas tax is providing over $900,000 this year to improve our streets.  Tourists, travelers, and residents all use our streets.  This tax spreads the cost of improvements to everyone so that City residents end up paying less to keep Danville streets properly maintained.

Gilbert Street from Voorhees to Winter and Park Haven from Old Ottawa to Fairway are scheduled for resurfacing this year.  Resurfacing is when the old asphalt is removed and replaced.  It costs about $20 per square yard.  See the green streets in the downloadable map.

The Maywood, Chateau Estates, Stonegate and Bayview subdivisions are scheduled for Microsurfacing.  Microsurfacing is a thin liquid layer of asphalt products and cement that after drying turns to a hard surface that seals the pavement and prolongs pavement life.  It costs about $3 per square yard.  See the red streets in the downloadable map.

The Denvale subdivision is scheduled for a cape seal.   For a cape seal, the streets is first oil and chipped.  After curing for at least 2 weeks, a microsurfacing treatment is applied.  The cape seal treatment will preserve pavement life and is required when asphalt pavements have too many cracks for just a microsurface treatment.  It costs about $4.50 per square yard.  See the blue streets in the downloadable map. 

Right now our funding is about a 50 year cycle to resurface asphalt streets, but our asphalt pavement life is only averaging 12 years.  We need to increase our life from 12 to 25 years by pavement preservation alternatives like microsurfacing.  We also need to decrease our resurfacing cycle from 50 years to 25 years if we want smooth roads in the future.
